Artist:Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston
Song:It Takes Two
Album:Anthology
Marvin Gaye had several female duet partners. A while back I wrote about Tammi Terrell but this great duet with Kim Weston is also worth a look so I thought I'd give her equal time. She was born Agatha Nelson Weston Dec. 30, 1939 in Detroit. As a teen she toured with the gospel group The Wright Specials. She signed with Motown in 1963 and had some solo hits and hit duets with Marvin Gaye. But she turned down Dancing In The Streets in 1965. This classic song It Takes Two was recorded in 1966 but by the time the song hit the charts in 1967, Kim and producer husband Mickey Stevenson had left Motown for MGM. Kim Weston has never really been able to duplicate her Motown success though she does record occasionally. Because Kim Weston & Mickey Stevenson had left Motown by the time It Takes Two was a hit, there's no video. But here's Kim Weston performing her hit Take Me In Your Arms on CKNW in Windsor about 1965.
