Here's the match video of Luana Pinheiro vs Randa Markos from last night's UFC show in Las Vegas. This fight is at Strawweight. Randa has been in the UFC since TUF 18. She's from Windsor, ON and she trains at Michigan Top Team in Dearborn, MI coached by Daron Cruickshank. Randa is a wrestler but her striking isn't very good. And mistakes has cost her fights too. She is on a three fight losing streak. Luana is 27 years old from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. She trains at BH Rhinos with Christiano Lazzarini. This is her UFC debut after appearing on Dana White's Contender Series. I liked what I saw from her there so I was looking forward to seeing her. Round one was competitive. The fight was stopped briefly after a Luana eye poke. Ref Mark Smith continued to warn Luana about her fingers. They were in a scramble when a Randa upkick knocked Luana out. Unfortunately Luana was down and upkicks to a downed opponent are illegal. Upkicks to a standing opponent are OK. Luana could not continue and Smith had no choice but to award Luana the match by DQ. So why are upkicks to a downed opponent illegal? Well, knees to a downed opponent used to be illegal until it was changed a few years ago. The upkick rule should probably be changed too but things move very slowly in the fight business. Luana was carried to the back. Let's hop she's OK. Check out the video.
