Artist:Magnetic Ear
Song:Turkey on the Westbank
Album:Aliens of Extraordinary Ability
Magnetic Ear is a contemporary jazz version of a traditional New Orleans brass band. I guess the big difference is Magnetic Ear doesn't perform traditional songs. The band leader is sax player Martin Krusche. He writes all the songs. Krusche is from Munich, Germany. After studying at the Herman Zilcher Conservatory, Krusche moved to New York in 1993 and then to New Orleans in 1995. He recorded with trumpeter Nicholas Payton. Payton appeared on Krusche's 2000 album Friendship Pagoda. Aliens of Extraordinary Ability was released in 2010 on their own label. They also released a live album in 2015. Other musicians are Paul Thibodeaux on drums, Dan Oestreicher on baritone sax. He is also a member of Trombone Shorty's Orleans Avenue. Charlie Halloran and Jeff Albert play trombone and Jason Jurzak is on sousaphone. Trombone Shorty guests on one track. Magnetic Ear's personnel is fluid as all the guys have other gigs. Krusche still leads the band along with Thibodeaux and Oestreicher. Jon Ramm and Wes Andersonn IV now play trombone and Steven Glenn is on tuba and sousaphone. Here's Magnetic Ear performing Turkey on the Westbank on the 2018 Bayou Boogaloo Festival in Bayou St. John, LA Apr. 19, 2018.
