AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Alessia Cara

Artist:Alessia Cara

Song:Scars to Your Beautiful

Album:Know-It-All: Deluxe Edition

Scars to Your Beautiful was one of two top ten pop hits from Alessia Cara's 2015 debut album Know-It-All. Her second album hasn't done as well. It remains to be seen what kind of longevity she will have. She was born Alessia Caracciolo July 11, 1996 in Mississauga, ON but she grew up in Brampton. Both are suburbs of Toronto. Her grandparents were Italian immigrants. She taught herself to play guitar. At age 13 she started posting videos on YouTube. This led to a record deal with EP Entertainment with DefJam distribution. Her 2015 debut single Here reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Then the album Know-It-All was released. Scars to Your Beautiful was the third single. It reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was certified Platinum. She won a bunch of awards including the 2018 Best New Artist Grammy. Alessia wrote all the songs with the production duo of Pop & Oak and Sebastian Kole. Pop & Oak have worked together since 2009. Andrew "Pop" Wansel is the son of legendary Philadelphia International producer Dexter Wansel. Warren "Oak" Felder was born in Turkey. He moved to the US in 2001. Sebastian Kole (real name-Coleridge Tillman) is signed to EP and he released an album in 2016. Both singles are anthemic. Scars to Your Beautiful is obviously about body image. Maybe it's a little too obvious. Know-It-All was released in a Deluxe Edition with five bonus tracks. It's available as a budget CD. She went on tour, won more awards. She also appeared on the 2017 top ten hit Stay by Zedd. Her 2018 album The Pains of Growing didn't do nearly as well. There were no hit singles. She continued to work with Pop & Oak though it may be time to change things up. She released a Christmas EP last year. Alessia got off to a hot start. Now we have to see if she can bounce back after a disappointing second album. Here's the video for Scars to Your Beautiful by Alessia Cara.
