Artist:Inspiral Carpets
Song:This Is How It Feels
Album:Greatest Hits
Inspiral Carpets came from the Madchester scene of the late 80s. They weren't as successful as The Stone Roses or Happy Mondays. But they did have chart success in England with songs like the 1990 single This Is How It Feels. Inspiral Carpets were formed in the Manchester suburb of Oldham in 1983. Guitarist Graham Lambert and singer Stephen Holt were friends in school. The other original members were Glenn Chesworth on keyboards, Tony Feeley on bass and Craig Gill on drums. Chesworth and Feeley were replaced by Clint Boon and Dave Swift. They sent out demos and eventually released a couple of EPs on their own label. They also recorded a session with BBC DJ John Peel. While recording the 1990 album Life, Holt and Swift left to start The Rankings. They were replaced by Tom Hingley and Martyn Walsh. Inspiral Carpets signed with Mute Records and This Is How It Feels reached #14 on the British Singles chart. Life reached #2 on the British Albums chart. Inspiral Carpets signed a US deal with Elektra but they were never able to break through in the US. After four albums, Inspiral Carpets split up in 1995. This budget comp covers their early 90s run. This was released when Inspiral Carpets reformed to tour in 2003. They continued to tour and a new album was released in 2014. Sadly, Gill committed suicide in 2016. I don't think Inspiral Carpets is active anymore. Fans of the Madchester sound should check them out. Here's the video for This Is How It Feels by Inspiral Carpets.
