AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Barry McGuire

Artist:Barry McGuire

Song:Bullfrogs and Butterflies

Album:Best of Barry McGuire

Most fans should be familiar with Barry McGuire from his days with the popular folk group The New Christy Minstrels and then his controversial 1966 hit Eve of Destruction. He became a born again Christian in the 70s and was a pioneer of CCM. Bullfrogs and Butterflies seems to be one of McGuire's more durable songs from this era. He wrote and recorded it for a Christian children's album. McGuire became a born again Christian in 1971. He signed with Word's Myrrh label. McGuire and Billy Ray Hearn founded Sparrow Records in 1976. He wrote Bullfrogs and Butterflies for one of a series of children's albums. They called themselves The Agape Force Prep School. Tony Salerno started this group in 1971. Guitarist Mike Deasy was musical director. He was a member of the Los Angeles session musician collective The Wrecking Crew. Shorty Rogers wrote the arrangements. Harlan Rogers and Chuck Findlay play on the record along with CCM veterans James Felix and Bill Maxwell. McGuire wrote and performed two songs for the album including Bullfrogs and Butterflies. Danniebell Hall was the other guest singer. McGuire still performs Bullfrogs and Butterflies on his live shows. The original album has never been released on CD or mp3. But Bullfrogs and Butterflies appears on this comp of McGuire's 70s recordings. It is available as a digital download. McGuire hasn't recorded in years. But he still tours. Here's Barry McGuire performing Bullfrogs and Butterflies. It doesn't give a date but it looks recent. BTW, this is the first time I have written about children's music. I guess there is a first time for everything.
