Accuradio Song Of The Day-The Bad Plus Joshua Redman

Artist:The Bad Plus Joshua Redman

Song:As This Moment Slips Away

Album:The Bad Plus Joshua Redman

Fans of the jazz trio The Bad Plus are going to want to check out this 2015 album with sax player Joshua Redman. The Bad Plus are from Minneapolis with Ethan Everson on piano, Reid Anderson on bass and David King on drums. They are known for their jazz covers of rock songs but they also write original material. Redman is a third generation sax player. His grandfather was Don Redman and his father was Dewey Redman. Redman also leads the trio James Farm. He is probably one of today's top jazz musicians. He recorded for Warner Bros. in the 90s and he currently records for Warner's Nonesuch label. Redman and The Bad Plus did a week at New York's Blue Note club with the idea of possibly recording an album and touring. The album was recorded in 2014 and released in 2015 on Nonesuch. The album was universally acclaimed and one of the songs was nominated for a Grammy. I guess the most interesting thing about this album is it's all original songs written for this album. Anderson wrote As This Moment Slips Away. All four guys wrote songs for the album. The album was very successful and they toured to support. It looks like the album was a one shot deal. Redman has been working a lot recently with pianist Brad Mehldau including the 2020 CD RoundAgain. Iverson left The Bad Plus in 2018 and was replaced by Orrin Evans. Evans left a couple of months ago. I'm sure The Bad Plus will add a third member prior to recording their next album. Here's The Bad Plus Joshua Redman performing As This Moment Slips Away at The Jazz Alley for Tacoma radio station KNKX.
