Michael Black is a member of a prominent Irish musical family. They are from Dublin, Ireland. There are several siblings. The best known of these is Mary Black who has had success as a solo artist in Ireland. Dad plays fiddle. Mom is a singer. The five siblings are Mary, Frances, Martin, Shay and Michael. They performed together in the 70s. Mary and then Frances went solo. They siblings recorded as The Black Family in the 80s. Michael and then Shay moved to San Francisco. While The Black Family reunites occasionally to record, Mary Black continues her successful solo career. Michael and Shay Black perform together in California and record occasionally. This 2007 album is Michael Black's solo debut. He performs mostly traditional songs like Billy O'Shea. The album producer is John Doyle formerly of the group Solas. He also plays guitar and bouzouki. The Black siblings are all on backup vocals. On fiddle is Liz Carroll, Dirk Powell and Liz Knowles. Liz Carroll has worked with Doyle. Powell is also the recording engineer. Liz Knowles is from Cherish the Ladies. Former Solas member John Williams is on accordion. Seamus Egan of Solas is on flute. And Chico Huff from Solas is on bass. A lot of Doyle's pals are on this album. This is Michael Black's only solo album to date. He continues to record and perform with Shay.
