Dominican singer songwriter Juan Luis Guerra has been a fixture at the top of the Latin charts since the early 90s. Burbujas de Amor is one of his early hits. His main musical style the Dominican Bachata style but he mixes in other musical styles. He was born June 7, 1957 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. His father was a professional baseball player. The National Music gallery was nearby where Guerra learned about The Beatles. He taught himself to play guitar. Then Guerra won a contest and got a scholarship at the National Conservatory. One of his instructors got him a scholarship at Berklee in Boston. He got homesick and returned home to form his band 4.40. This refers to 440 Hertz which is supposed to be the perfect note. Guerra signed with the Dominican label Karen. His debut album was released in 1985. But the 1990 album Bachata Rosa made Guerra a star. Burbujas de Amor reached #2 on the Billboard Latin chart. Several more singles charted and the album sold five million copies and won Guerra a Grammy. He became a fixture on the Latin charts for the next 15 years. This budget comp was released in 1995 so it doesn't cover his recent music. Guerra is still around. But after switching to Capitol in 2011, he just hasn't been as popular like he was in the 90s. Here's Juan Luis Guerra performing Burbujas de Amor at the 1991 Festival de Vina in Chile.
