Here is the match video of Montserrat Conejo vs Cheyanne Buys from last night's UFC show in Las Vegas. This fight was at Strawweight. Cheyanne's original opponent was Kay Hansen. But she pulled out due to injury. Montserrat was 1-1 in Invicta as Montserrat Ruiz. She is from Mexico but she trains in El Paso, TX. She was training for an Invicta fight vs Emily Ducote when she got the call for this fight. Cheyanne trains at Fortis MMA and she was on Contender Series. When Montserrat went for the dreaded headlock takedown, I thought Cheyanne would take her back. That's what usually happens. But Cheyanne can't get out of it. So this fight turned into 15 minutes of lay and pray. I guess the only question is should the ref break it up because Montserrat couldn't advance her position. She threw a few punches so the ref wouldn't separate them. If she tries to advance her position, Cheyanne takes her back and a possible rear naked choke. So the position is a dead end. All Montserrat could do was hold on. Cheyanne did better i n round three but it was too late by then. I scored it 29-28 for Montserrat. Two of the judges scored it the same and the third scored it 29-27. Afterwards Cheyanne thought Montserrat spit at her so they got into a scuffle. The question is can Montserrat do anything else. Because there are refs who would not have allowed her to hold that position without an attempt to advance. We'll see what happens in her next fight. Enjoy the video!
