AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Cynthia

Artist:Cynthia

Song:Change On Me

Album:The Remixes

Freestyle singer Cynthia Torres had success in the late 80s with hits like Change On Me. When things dried up, she left the music business but returned in the late 90s and had a second run on the dance charts. That's unusual as Freestyle singers tend to be disposable. She tours the Freestyle nostalgia circuit today. She was born May 6, 1968 in Spanish Harlem in New York City. She was discussing with her singer friend Safire about getting into music. Safire set up several auditions. One of those auditions was for Mic Mac Records owner Mickey Garcia. Mic Mac specialized in Freestyle music. He signed her up. Change On Me was the first single in 1988. Garcia produced with his frequent partner Elvin Molina. Change On Me reached #37 on the dance chart. It wasn't Cynthia's biggest hit but it's probably her signature song. The 1990 single Dreamboy/Dreamgirl, a duet with Johnny O, reached #53 on the Billboard Hot 100. That was her biggest chart hit. Cynthia recorded two albums for Mic Mac. Then she quit the music business to get her nursing degree. That's when Mic Mac released this album of remixes. She returned in 1997 with Robbins Entertainment and producer Tony Moran. Singles like If I Had the Chance were dance hits. Cynthia continues to perform on the Freestyle nostalgia circuit and record occasionally. For this kind of music, her career has been significant. Here's the video for Change On Me by Cynthia. This is one of two recent videos produced for this song.
