Artist:Jekalyn Carr
Song:Jehovah Jireh
Album:Changing Your Story
By the time Jekalyn Carr made her recording debut at age 15, she was already an accomplished preacher. But she and her parents decided to turn it into a music ministry. Since then she has been very successful on the gospel chart and has been nominated for Grammys and won Stellar and Dove awards. She was born Apr. 22, 1997 in Memphis, TN but she grew up in West Memphis, AR. She started singing in the church choir at age five. By age nine, she was singing lead in the choir. While her singing developed, she was a motivational speaker and preacher. Then along with her parents, she turned it into a music ministry. Jekalyn released her debut album in 2011. She is managed by her father Allen Carr. I don't know if they went label shopping. But when Jekalyn got radio play on gospel stations, Carr decided to start his own label Lunjeal for the 2013 album Greater Is Coming. They have worked with distributors like eOne and Universal. Jehovah Jireh is from Jekalyn's latest CD Changing Your Story. Jekalyn writes all her own songs usually with her dad. The other key figure is musical director Timothy Mason who played keyboards for Kurt Carr. It's important to have an experienced guy like him running the band smoothly because it has a lot of moving pieces. Jekalyn is now 22 years old. She has already won Stellar and Dove awards, been nominated for a Grammy. And she even wrote a book. And she owns it all with her family. Sounds good to me. Here's Jekalyn Carr performing Jehovah Jirah at Praise in the Park at the Cellaris Amphitheater in Atlanta. This is where the album was recorded.
