Artist:Chichi Peralta
Song:La Ciguapa
Album:Pa'Otro La' o
Dominican percussionist Chichi Peralta had success in the late 90s with his brand of salsa music. The 1997 single La Ciguapa is probably his biggest hit. I would describe his music as merengue mixed with jazz and hip hop elements. He was born July 9, 1966 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He started playing drums at age four. After self releasing an album, Peralta got a record deal with Caiman Music with Sony distribution. Pa'Otro La'o was his debut album in 1997. La Ciguapa was the biggest hit from the album. The album was a big success in Latin America. Most of the songs were written either by Peralta or Jandy Feliz. Feliz was also one of the singers. Peralta raps. His 2000 album De Vuelta al Barrio won a Latin Grammy and so did his 2005 album Mas Que Suficente. Unfortunately Caiman went bankrupt in 2009. So Peralta was forced to release a couple of albums on his own label. He last recorded in 2012. I don't know if he's still active. Salsa fans should check him out. Here's Chichi Peralta performing La Ciguapa from the 2002 DVD En Vivo. This is out of print but you can stream it on YouTube.
