AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Groove Armada

Artist:Groove Armada

Song:At the River

Album:The Best Of

The electronic music duo Groove Armada has been around since the late 90s. They have had success mostly in England and in clubs. Though not their biggest hit, the 1999 single At the River was their first single and it set them up for later success. Andy Cato's girlfriend introduced him to Tom Findlay and they soon started their own night in a London club. In 1997 they released a couple of singles including At the River. It got enough attention that eventually Groove Armada got a record deal with Jive for the 1999 album Vertigo. Though At the River never charted, Vertigo was certified Platinum in England. So the single really sold the album. At the River was recorded at a cottage in Ambleside. Findlay was cratedigging in a local record shop when he found Patti Page's Old Cape Cod in a bargain bin. Of course it's a very memorable sample. The other notable thing is Cato's trombone solo. He says he brought the trombone to the cottage to practice for an upcoming jazz concert. The success of At the River led to long term success for Groove Armada especially on the dance charts. This budget comp was released in 2004 with a bonus live DVD. Since then Groove Armada has been  successful especially with the 2007 album Soundboy Rock and the single Song 4 Mutya (Out of Control) featuring Sugababes lead singer Mutya Buena. Groove Armada currently records for BMG and their latest album Edge of the Horizon was released in 2020. Here's the video for At the River by Groove Armada.
