Big Bad Blog Video Theater-Asuka vs Charlotte Flair

Here's the match video of Asuka defending her WWE RAW Women's Championship against Charlotte Flair. I figured Nia Jax would get involved and we would get a gimmick match at Extreme Rules. Instead the WWE has done an injury angle to get Charlotte off TV probably until SimmerSlam. Nia Jax came out to complain about last week's loss. Then Charlotte came out and after a skirmish, Charlotte seemed to hurt her arm. Later she emerged from the trainer's room with her shoulder taped. Like Samoa Joe said on commentary, that's a target for Asuka to attack. And that's exactly what she did. The match was very similar to their other matches. The end comes when Asuka applies an armbar and Charlotte turns it into a power bomb. Asuka transitions into an Asuka Lock for the win. Considering how hard that bump was, that was an incredible transition. Afterwards, Nia attacks Charlotte. The WWE announces that Charlotte may have a broken collarbone. This morning they announced that she will have surgery and will return by SummerSlam. Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer reports that Charlotte is indeed having surgery but not on her shoulder. My guess is her boob implants are leaking like two years ago. Later on after Bayley and Sasha Banks successfully defend their WWE Women's Tag Team Championships, Sasha challenges Asuka for her title. So that's the match we will get at Extreme Rules. Enjoy the video!

  1. What do you make of the repetitious nature of the way WWE continue to book their matches?

  2. It's not new. Everything old is new again. I don't get worked up over things like that.

    1. My apologies. I was referencing the fact that Charlotte is now on every brand and taking up a lot of air time. I was curious to how it makes you feel?

  3. Recent events make that moot because Charlotte will be gone for the rest of the year. The WWE took one bad decision, putting the NXT belt on Charlotte, and then they panicked when Becky announced her pregnancy. Their mistake is thinking that Charlotte is a draw and more Charlotte means higher ratings. She's not that good. Overexposure can be a problem and for Charlotte and her dad to not acknowledge that interview makes them look like clueless egomaniacs. You might ask does Asuka care that they don't give her credit. And the answer is she only cares about getting paid. And that's how I feel about it.

    1. Quite frankly(no pun intended) we don’t know how Asuka feels. If I was to make an assumption based on being a fan from her earlier work in Japan and listening to her statements from back in the day. Asuka or Kana seems to favour a more realistic, and an almost abstract approach to her wrestling. She’s come a long way from the days when she was releasing manifestos

I would argue that WWE don’t cater to freedom of expression. I thought it was interesting at the beginning to see how her style altered to suit the WWE performance centre video game style of wrestling but over time her in ring style has become very cartoonish by comparison to her earlier work which I believe held more integrity.

But maybe it’s fine to compromise your integrity for the sake of money and fame. If she was to leave WWE her recognition for her work in the company would make her a valuable asset to any wrestling company and we know that Asuka owns a graphic design company so maybe this is good business sense?

  4. She told Tokyo Sports in Jan. 2018 that if she hadn't come to the WWE, she would have retired. And if you recall, she did announce in July 2015 that she was going on hiatus. And she signed with the WWE a month later. So it's all about the money. After she retires, I dunno if she will return to Japan. She seems very happy doing Youtube videos in Las Vegas.

  5. I wasn’t aware of that. I stopped watching wrestling between 2011 and 2018.
I only recently got back into it and I’m not familiar with any of the new joshi wrestlers. I end up watching older stuff I liked as a kid.
