Lila McCann was 16 years old when I Wanna Fall In Love was a top five country hit in 1997. It was all downhill from there. She was born Dec. 4, 1981 in Puyallup, WA which is near Tacoma. As a child, she sang with her father's country band. She was in high school when her manager gave her the song Down Came a Blackbird. The song was written by Mark Spiro. Born in Seattle, Spiro lived in Germany in the 80s and produced Laura Branigan and Anne Murray among others. He produced the demo for Down Came a Blackbird. Asylum Records president Seymour Stein heard it and signed Lila. LeAnn Rimes was very popular at the time. So when the 1997 album Lila was released, Lila was compared to LeAnn. I Wanna Fall In Love reached #3 on the Country Singles chart. The album was certified Platinum and it was the biggest selling country artist debut for 1997. Spiro wrote and produced the album. He wrote I Wanna Fall In Love with Buddy Brock who had written with Aaron Tippin. She scored a top ten country hit with With You from the 1999 album Something in the Air. That album was certified Gold. When Asylum's Nashville office closed, Lila was moved to Warner Bros. and David Malloy was brought in to produce the 2001 album Complete. When that didn't sell, Warners dropped her. Lila McCann was 19 years old. Obviously the record company management change didn't do her any favors. This happens a lot in the music business. Lila signed with Broken Bow Records. She released four singles but there was never an album. She started a family and had two kids. And she also started a photography business.
