AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Faith Evans

Artist:Faith Evans
Song:Love Like This
Album:Keep the Faith

Faith Evans is best known for her association with Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs and his record label Bad Boy. She sings lead on the 1997 number one hit I'll Be Missing You by Puff Daddy and the Family. The 1998 single Love Like This was her biggest hit as a solo artist. She was born June 10, 1973 in Lakeland, FL. but she was raised by her cousins in Newark, NJ who she thought were her grandparents. Her mother was on the road singing. Faith grew up singing in church. Her major influence is Karen Clark-Sheard of The Clark Sisters. She sounds a lot like Karen. After studying at Fordham in New York and giving birth to her daughter, Faith moved to Los Angeles to sing backup for Al B. Sure!. Combs spotted Faith and signed her to Bad Boy in 1994. That was also when she met and married rapper Christopher "The Notorious B.I.G." Wallace. They met at a photo shoot. Her 1995 debut album Faith was certified Platinum. She had two top 30 pop hits. Of course her husband was murdered in Mar. 1997 and I'll Be Missing You was recorded as a tribute to Wallace. It was a huge hit. Faith sang lead on that record. I know this seems perverse but the success of that song certainly helped when Faith's 1998 CD Keep the Faith was released. The album was certified Platinum. Love Like This reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and All Night Long reached #9. Combs produced the album with Faith and she wrote all the lyrics. Love Like This was co-produced by Ron "Amen-Ra" Lawrence of the production collective The Hitmen. They worked frequently with Combs. The song is based on Chic Cheer by Chic. Like much of Combs' sampling, the original song is too easy to recognize. Faith's 2001 album Faithfully didn't do as well as previous albums. Part of the problem may have been that Bad Boy was switching distributors from Arista to Universal. But Faith was unhappy with Bad Boy's promotion of the album. She left Bad Boy for Capitol. She was executive producer on the 2005 album The First Lady. About half the album was produced by Carvin Haggins and Ivan Barias AKA Carvin & Ivan. The album underperformed and there were no hit singles. After releasing a Christmas album, Faith left Capitol. She now has her own label. She has released three albums including a 2017 album of duets with her late husband Notorious B.I.G. She also appeared on the TV One reality series R&B Divas: Atlanta. And she wrote her autobiography in 2008. Here's the video for Love Like This by Faith Evans.
