AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Dolly Parton and Vince Gill

Artist:Dolly Parton and Vince Gill
Song:I Will Always Love You
Album:Souvenirs

Of course most music fans are familiar with Whitney Houston's hit single I Will Always Love You from the 1992 film The Bodyguard. But Dolly Parton wrote the song and topped the country charts in 1974. The song was on the same album as Jolene so it's somewhat overshadowed. She topped the country charts again with her 1982 recording from the soundtrack of the film The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. This 1995 duet version of I Will Always Love You with Vince Gill was a top 15 country hit. Dolly left RCA in 1985 and eventually signed with Columbia. She recorded seven albums for Columbia. She started out OK but by the time she recorded the 1995 album Something Special, she was fading badly. The answer to that was to record I Will Always Love You with Vince Gill who was one of the hottest country stars at the time. After they performed it on the Aug. 26 Grand Ole Opry TV show on TNN, radio stations started playing the record and Columbia released it as a single. It reached #15 on the Country Singles chart. This turned out to be Dolly's final album for Columbia. She eventually had success at the bluegrass label Sugar Hill. Something Special is still available on CD. The only Dolly Parton comp that this version of the song appears on is I Will Always Love You released in 1995 to take advantage of the hit single. The album is 35 minutes long and this version does not appear on any other Dolly Parton comps.  I Will Always Love You does not appear on a Vince Gill album. But MCA added it to this 1995 comp CD Souvenirs of some of his early hits. It does not appear on recent comp CDs. Here's Dolly Parton and Vince Gill performing I Will Always Love You on the 1995 CMA Awards broadcast Oct. 4, 1995.
