Artist:Harry Chapin
Song:Cat's In The Cradle
Album:The Gold Medal Collection
Harry Chapin was a very popular singer songwriter who would likely still be popular today if not for his premature death. He was born Dec. 7, 1942 in Grenwich Village, NY. He formed a band with brothers Stephen & Tom. Tom would go on to be a very popular children's music performer. Harry started out as a documentary filmmaker and was nominated for an Oscar in 1968 for Legendary Champions. He decided to go back to music in 1971 and formed a band. The key guy was bassist/arranger John Wallace. Also included was Tim Scott on cello. Harry signed with Elektra and Taxi was his first big hit in 1972. It set the prototype for Chapin's story songs. They were sometimes overwrought, sometimes humourous. Cat's In The Cradle was probably his biggest hit from 1974's Verities & Balderdash. As he says in this video performance, the song is about his son. This comp has all his hits. There's not much question that Harry Chapin's success would have continued except for the fatal car crash on the Long Island Expressway on July 16, 1981 that killed him instantly at age 38. Enjoy this video of Harry Chapin performing Cat's In The Cradle.
You'll notice something new at the top of this blog. It's a new widget from Blogger called a Video Bar. If you click on the thumbnail, you can watch the video from Youtube or Google right on the blog. I will change the subject depending on my current writing. I wrote about Megumi Yabushita yesterday so you get to watch four Yabushita matches. Enjoy.
