Shirley Caesar is known as The First Lady Of Gospel Music. She was born Oct. 13, 1938 in Durham, NC. She grew up singing in church and started out in the 60s with The Caravans. Shirley's music has become the standard by which other gospel artists are judged. She's almost 70 years old now and she shows no signs of slowing down. This 1995 CD Live...He Will Come is fairly typical. It's a live recording with her backup singers and a choir. Shirley's performances are always energetic and this video of Sweeping Through The City illustrates that. Shirley was with Word Records for over 30 years but was dropped in 2003. She now has her own label distributed through Artemis and released I Know The Truth in 2005. She has her own church in Durham and is also involved in the recent Caravans reunion. Shirley Caesar is more than a gospel music icon. She is a great entertainer and is worthy of your time.
