The booking at Pro Wrestling SUN has been suspect from the very start. It's not getting any better. A pre-show bait & switch put a bit of a damper on the Apr. 5 Shin-kiba 1st Ring show. A few weeks ago, SUN had one of their typical press conferences announcing a three way match between Nanae Takahashi, Amazing Kong & Atsuko Emoto. Kong did a whole let's be friends routine even resorting to singing We Are The World. Not surprisingly, Takahashi & Emoto didn't buy her shtick.
Knowing that Amazing Kong was scheduled to appear on this weekend's SHIMMER taping in Berwyn, IL, I thought she was cutting it close by appearing on the SUN show too. The answer is she was never supposed to be on the SUN show. Unfortunately, SUN chose to announce this on Apr. 3. Nanae Takahashi appeared on the Samurai TV show S Arena. They showed a video message of Amazing Kong saying she won't be able to make the show. Takahashi said she felt cheated. I guess the idea is to keep the feud going. I'm not crazy about the method because SUN obviously knew weeks ago that Kong would not be on the show and she's a major star. Her replacement was initially announced as a mystery wrestler but Nakamura gave it away when he said she has an afro.
The show itself was nothing special. I didn't see a number but they didn't fill the hall. Hikaru beat Shuu Shibutani with the Ranakiller H at 12:57. Toshie Uematsu & Steve Corino defended the WDB Mixed Tag Team Titles over Tie Chie & KUSHIDA. Corino over KUSHIDA with the 3D at 16:16. Nanae Takahashi won a three way match over Atsuko Emoto & Kyoko Kimura (surprise!). Takahashi over Emoto with the Nanarack at 17:13. The main event had Natsuki*Taiyo successfully defending her World 1 Womens Championship over Saki Maemura with her bomb at 15:41. The next Pro Wrestling SUN show will be May 27 at Korakuen Hall. This company really needs to start delivering a better product.
