Hisae Watanabe knew she messed up when she lost to Korean fighter Hin Su Hong on the last DEEP show in February. This seems to happen a lot to kickboxers turned MMA fighters. Maybe they lose concentration. But it was a humbling experience for someone who is supposed to be one of the top fighters in Japan. So Watanabe used her Apr. 13 match on the Korakuen Hall DEEP show against veteran fighter Masako Yoshida to redeem herself. You'd think this was a safe bet but that's what they thought in February.
Watanabe's strength are her strikes and that's how she starts out with Yoshida. A couple of straight rights followed by high kicks knock Yoshida down. Yoshida gets back up but is knocked down again by a high kick and a knee kick. Watanabe got her in a foot hold to finish round one. Watanabe begins round two with more kicks. Yoshida tries to block a takedown but Watanabe gets her in a triangle choke. She turns this into an arm bar and Yoshida submits at 2:19 of round two. It's a step for Hisae Watanabe but she needs to redeem herself against the Korean. The Bodog Fight PPV had two womens matches. Amanda Buckner defeated Hitomi Akano by unanimous decision. Kickboxer Julie Kedzie defeated Julia Berezikova by TKO at 2:49 of round two. That was a dark match.
