Artist:The Who

Album:Who's Next
The Who were one of the most enduring of British Invasion groups but probably had a harder edge than some of the other groups of that time. They were led by guitarist songwriter Pete Townshend along with Roger Daltrey on vocals, John Entwistle on bass and Keith Moon on drums. The genesis of the group was that Townshend & Entwistle were high school pals in London. In their early days, The Who were mostly known for smashing instruments on stage. The turning point was when they recorded the first rock opera Tommy in 1969. It was a huge success and Townshend decided to write another one called Lifehouse. The other guys didn't like it and Townshend suffered a nervous breakdown. Veteran producer Glyn Johns took The Who into the studio to pick up the pieces and they emerged with Who's Next. It was one of their best and most popular albums. It still sounds great today. In 2001, Universal rereleased Who's Next on CD with bonus tracks including this unreleased version of the classic Behind Blue Eyes. They released a 2CD Deluxe Edition in 2003 that includes their April 26, 1971 Young Vic concert. The Who was never the same after Keith Moon's death and they more or less disbanded in 1982 though they reunited occasionally. Entwistle died in 2002 but Townshend & Daltrey reunited to release the 2006 CD Endless Wire. Here's The Who performing Behind Blue Eyes in London in 1979.
