Yahoo LAUNCHCAST song of the day

Artist:Roy Hargrove

Song:Salima's Dance

Album:Nothing Serious

Trumpeter Roy Hargrove is one of the busiest guys in the music business. Not only does he have his own jazz group but he also tours with his R & B group RH Factor and he finds the time to play as a sideman too. He was born Oct. 16, 1969 in Waco, TX. Wynton Marsalis visited his high school in 1987 and Hargrove was invited to sit in with his band. He started playing sessions and was part of Don Sickler's group Superblue. Meanwhile he signed a solo contract with Novus Records. He continued to tour in the early 90s and moved to Verve Records in 1995. His jazz recordings are very straight forward bop. But he started hanging around with some of the Neo Soul crowd and in 2000 played trumpet on a record by rapper Common. He started to get more into that music and started RH Factor in 2003. Nothing Serious is his latest jazz CD. Salima's Dance is a beautiful song written by pianist Ronnie Mathews. Other musicians include Willie Jones II on drums, Dwayne Burno on bass, Justin Robinson on alto sax and Slide Hampton on trombone. Verve also released the RH Factor CD Distractions on the same day as Nothing Serious. Roy Hargrove is a great musician and will continue to be in demand by his peers. Here's Roy Hargove with tenor sax legend Johnny Griffin performing at the North Sea Jazz Festival.
