Clint Bowyer wins Phoenix Busch Series race

As I've said before, Kyle Busch has had a very strange Busch Series season. He's led more laps than anyone but something always seems to happen. And he won the pole for Friday's Bashas Supermarkets 200 at Phoenix. Can he change his luck?

The race starts with a first lap crash. Shane Huffman's #88 US Navy Chevy gets out of shape and collects Aric Almirola's #18 Banquet Foods Chevy & Tony Raines' #33 Road Loans Chevy. Huffman said he didn't know what happened but there may have been a problem with his brakes. Kyle Busch's #5 Spectracide/Lowe's Chevy leads at the restart. Clint Bowyer's #2 Camping World Chevy takes the lead on lap 50.

Ward Burton's #27 Scott's Shop Towels Ford gets loose and crashes into Bobby Hamilton Jr.'s #35 McDonald's Ford on lap 95. Everyone pits except Ryan Newman's #12 Kodak Dodge stays out to take the lead. on lap 102, Kyle Busch clips Newman and takes both guys out. Casey Mears' #24 National Guard Chevy slows down and gets hit from behind by David Ragan's #6 Discount Tire Ford. Bowyer gets the lead but is passed by Jeff Burton's #29 Holiday Inn Chevy on lap 117.

At lap 130, fuel mileage could become an issue but David Stremme's #41 Wrigley's Winterfresh Dodge crashes into Todd Kleuver's #16 3M Ford to bring out a lap 137 caution. Everyone makes final pit stops but Juan Pablo Montoya's #42 Texaco Havoline Dodge takes two tires to lead. He's immediately passed by Clint Bowyer, Matt Kenseth & Denny Hamlin and then Montoya crashes into Steve Wallace's #66 HomeLife Communities Dodge to bring out the caution on lap 148.

Bowyer continues to lead but Matt Kenseth's #17 iLevel Ford takes the lead on lap 171. Jeff Burton is closing in third. Stephen Leicht's #90 Citi Financial Ford blows a tire and hits the wall to bring out the caution on lap 189. seven laps remain and Bowyer leads. Kenseth has to fight off Burton for second. On the final lap, JJ Yeley's #1 Miccosukee Casino Chevy spins and takes out Jon Wood's #47 Clorox Ford. The yellow comes out but because the white flag was out, the race is over and Clint Bowyer wins. Carl Edwards still leads the points and the Busch Series is in Talledega next week. Here's video footage of Kyle Busch's crash.
