The Bar-Kays started out as a second house band for Stax Records in Memphis. They were on the way up with the hit Soul Finger when four members of the band were killed in the same plane crash that killed Otis Redding on Dec. 10, 1967. The band was able to regroup and had added vocals by the early 70s. They signed with Mercury in 1976 and became one of the most popular funk groups of the 70s. Deliver Us is from their 1980 album As One and is probably a little more R& B based then most of their music. The Bar-Kays continued to record in the 80s but ran out of steam and split up in 1988. Mercury has released a couple of comps including this one. The Bar-Kays are a must for funk fans.
