Artist:Duke Ellington
Song:Mood Indigo
Album:Priceless Jazz Collection
Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington is the most important jazz composer in history. In particular, his big band is the pinnacle of that genre. This particular budget comp covers a few records he made for Impulse in the early 60s. Mood Indigo is from the 1962 Duke Ellington Meets Coleman Hawkins and includes some of his regular band members like Johnny Hodges & Harry Carney on sax, Lawrence Brown on trombone, Ray Nance on violin & cornet, Aaron Bell on bass & Sam Woodyard on drums. It's a very good recording but it only scratches the surface. This comp also has some tracks from Duke Ellington & John Coltrane. I don't know if I'd even recommend it for beginners. Get the original albums. I'll talk about Duke again in the future.
