Oleta Adams is a tremendous singer/writer/pianist who grew up in church in the tradition of Aretha Franklin. She has a very rich deep soulful voice. The story goes that the British pop group Tears For Fears was touring the US in 1985. TFF frontman Roland Orzabal walked into a Kansas City hotel bar where Oleta was performing and asked her to appear on their next record. This resulted in her appearance on their hit Women In Chains. TFF record label Fontana signed her and Orzabal & TFF producer Dave Bascombe produced her debut album Circle Of One in 1990. Oleta had heard the Brenda Russell song Get Here on Brenda's record and did a better version that reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Oleta was never able to duplicate that success though her records are very good. Fontana dropped her and Oleta released the gospel album Come Walk With Me in 1997. She's still around and released a Christmas album this year on KOCH Records. This comp is OK. You can get Get Here on tons of various artists comps.
