Co-op unveils new wheelchair taxis

One of the big issues for the disabled in Toronto is you have to plan trips in advance if you want to go anywhere. TTC Wheeltrans is economical but the service leaves a lot to be desired. So yesterday Co-op Taxis introduced an accessible taxi that can be flagged down like any other cab. CITY-TV reporter David Onley, who uses a scooter, did a story on it. So far there are only four cabs so it's probably a good idea to book them in advance but it is a start. You can see the video at http://www.citynews.ca/ There are times when this would be worth using and the vans look great.

Of course I use TTC Wheeltrans all the time so on Wednesday I will be at a meeting at City Hall to participate in the Toronto Transit Commission Advisory Committee for Accessible Transportation. Who better than yours truly to tell the TTC what kind of hoops we have to jump through to get a ride that shows up on time. It should be interesting.
