Artist:Miles Davis
Song:Someday My Prince Will Come
Album:Miles Davis & John Coltrane:The Complete Columbia Recordings
Just another 5CD box set in Columbia's continued attempts to reissue Miles Davis' recordings...and there are a lot of recordings. Davis & Coltrane worked together when Davis was on Prestige. When Davis moved to Columbia, they simply made some of the greatest recordings in jazz history. This box has everything they recorded together on Columbia in a metal box. It looks like Sony rereleased this in 2004 in a cardboard box. Someday My Prince Will Come is from the 1961 album of the same name and Coltrane is only on two tracks as he & Cannonball Adderley had split with Davis. Hank Mobley plays sax on the rest of the album. Other musicians include Wynton Kelly on piano, Paul Chambers on bass & Jimmy Cobb and Philly Joe Jones alternate on drums. At this point Davis is trying to figure out what he wants to do next so the album is filler but Davis' filler is better than anyone else's. So this is a great version of this standard and the box set is recommended to Davis/Coltrane fans.
