Yahoo LAUNCHCAST song of the day

Artist:Stan Getz

Song:Jumpin' With Symphony Sid

Album:The Complete Roost Recordings

Stan Getz was a great tenor sax player who could have gone mainstream when he had several bossa nova hits in the early 60s but chose to stay true to jazz instead. His music still sounds great. This 3CD box set issued by Roulette is everything he recorded for Roost records in the early 50s. Lester Young was a big influence on Getz so it's not surprising that he would tackle Young's Jumpin' With Symphony Sid. Musicians include Jimmy Raney on guitar, Al Haig on piano, Teddy Kotick on bass & Tiny Kahn on drums. It was recorded live at Storyville in Sweden Oct. 28, 1951 and still sounds great. He has plenty of other great records too. Stan Getz died on June 6, 1991 at age 64.
