Artist:The Isley Brothers
Song:That Lady, Parts 1 & 2
Album:Super Hits
The Isley Brothers have been around since the 50s and have adjusted very well to changing musical styles over the years. This 1973 version of Who's That Lady is one of their biggest hits. They grew up in Cincinnati and started out as a gospel quartet. Vernon Isley died in 1955 and that left them as a trio of Ronald, Rudolph & O'Kelly Isley. Shout was probably their biggest early hit. In 1964, guitarist Jimi Hendrix made his first recordings with the Isleys. The Isleys struggled for a while until It's Your Thing topped the charts in 1969. At that time they also added Ernie Isley's guitar along with brother Marvin, brother-in-law Chris Jasper and family friend Everett Collins. Ernie's Hendrix influenced guitar brought them to a wider audience. 1973's That Lady was a reworking of the 60s song Who's That Lady featuring Ernie's guitar licks. It was a huge hit and a great song. This Super Hits budget comp is a pretty good introduction for beginners. The Isleys continued to have success in the 70s until Ernie, Marvin & Chris Jasper left to form Isley Jasper Isley. O'Kelly Isley died in 1986. But the Isley Brothers reformed in 1990 and continue to record & tour today. The Isley Brothers are one of the most influential groups in black music history. Here are The Isley Brothers performing That Lady on the Sinbad Summer Music Jam.
