Patrick Carpentier comes to NASCAR

Gillett Evernham Motorsports announced today that former CHAMP car driver Patrick Carpentier will drive what is currently known as the #10 Valvoline Dodge in the NASCAR Sprint Cup in 2008. The number & sponsor are to be announced. Current driver Scott Riggs will move to Haas CNC Racing in 2008. It's been known for a while that GEM was interested in Carpentier. He was very impressive driving the #10 at the Watkins Glen Nextel Cup race in August. Of course Carpentier is from Montreal meaning the 2008 Sprint Cup will have two Canadian regulars for the first time ever. Jacques Villeneuve will drive for Bill Davis Racing. This also continues the influx of international drivers in NASCAR. Next year's Sprint Cup will also include Juan Pablo Montoya, Dario Franchitti & Marcos Ambrose.

Keep an eye on Carpentier this year. He is scheduled to attempt both Phoenix and Homestead Nextel races in preparation for 2008!
