Pro Wrestling SUN held a press conference Friday to announce an upcoming tournament. But they also announced that they're changing their name from Pro Wrestling SUN to Chick Fights SUN. The reason for the change given by Takahashi at the press conference is that Chick Fights is the worldwide generic name for women's professional wrestling. Really? Paging Chickfights owner Jason Deadrich. SUN president Nakamura isn't any more enlightening on the SUN blog. The likely real reason is simply to distinguish themselves from other wrestling promotions with a more distinctive name. Especially if they're going to have occasional matches abroad. That has to be it because they didn't change the logo.
SUN also announced plans for a tournament to be called Chick Fever J. This will be a round robin tournament The wrestlers will be divided into the Cup Zone and the Coin Zone. All matches will have a 30 minute time limit. There will be two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a loss. The tournament matches will be on the Oct. 18, Oct. 19 & Nov. 15 Shin-kiba 1st Ring shows. The winners of the zones will face off in the final on the Nov. 16 Shin-kiba 1st Ring. Announced participants include Nanae Takahashi, Hikaru, Saki Maemura, Natsuki*Taiyo, Toshie Uematsu & Kayoko Haruyama. Yumiko Hotta has been contacted but hasn't confirmed. It doesn't say how many wrestlers will be in the tournament so I don't know if they will bring in any gaijins. But I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
