Song:Through His Eyes of Love
Album:The Very Best of Steve Archer
Steve Archer was a member of the pioneering CCM group The Archers. He branched off as a solo artist in the 80s at a time when religious labels were trying to cross CCM artists over to pop. Through His Eyes of Love topped the CCM charts in 1983. He was born Jan. 4, 1953 in Mojave, CA. His father was a pastor and Archer and his brother Tim Archer sang in church. Along with older brother Gary Archer, they toured Bay Area churches as The Archer Brothers. When Gary left the group in 1970. Steve and Tim formed The Archers with Nancye Short and Billy Rush Masters. The Archers were very successful in what was called Jesus Music at the time. This would eventually be called Contemporary Christian Music (CCM). While still with The Archers, Steve Archer decided to record solo with veteran producer Chris Christian and his Home Sweet Home label. Through His Eyes was Archer's second solo album in 1983. Christian licensed the album to Word's Myrrh label in an attempt to cross Archer over to pop. Though that didn't work out, the single Through His Eyes of Love topped the CCM charts. They even produced what was supposedly the first CCM music video. When The Archers went on hiatus, Archer expanded his solo career to include touring. Archer recorded five albums from 1982-87. This comp CD covers those albums. The Archers returned in 1991 and after two albums, they retired in 1994. Archer moved to Texas and continued to tour. He released a couple of albums. The most recent was in 2005. I think he retired as his website is kaput. Here's the video for Through His Eyes of Love by Steve Archer.
