Sergio Pereira is a contemporary acoustic guitarist steeped in the Bossa Nova tradition. Nu Brasil is his latest album. Pereira was born in Rio de Janeiro influenced by Gilberto and Jobim among others. He moved to New York in the 80s. He toured with the United Nations Jazz Band for 15 years. They were strictly a touring band. They never recorded. And he also played with guys like Helio Alves, Lonnie Plaxico and Duduka de Fonseca. Pereira moved to Europe in 2003. He lived in The Netherlands from 2003-09. He now lives in Valencia, Spain and he also spends time in New York. Down South is from his 2018 album Nu Brasil on the ZOHO label. It's his latest album. Musicians are Alexey Leon on soprano sax, Baptiste Bailly on piano, Ales Cesarini on bass and Mauricio Zottarelli on drums. Devin Malloy is the rapper. The album was recorded in Spain. Fans of Brazilian guitar should check out Sergio Pereira.
