AccuRadio Song Of The Day-The Killers

Artist:The Killers

Song:Mr. Brightside

Album:Direct Hits

The Killers are a very successful indie rock band. The 2004 single Mr. Brightside is their biggest hit to date. They have been very successful since then and they have a new album coming out in a couple of weeks. The Killers are from Las Vegas. Lead singer Brandon Flowers was fired from his previous band Blush Response in 2001. He responded to a newspaper ad placed by guitarist Dave Keuning who had just moved to Las Vegas from Iowa. They started writing songs at Keuning's apartment and the two have been together ever since. The Killers was the name of the fictional band in the New Order video for the song Crystal. Apparently Mr. Brightside was the first song Flowers and Keuning wrote together and it was on a demo they recorded. They hired a bassist and drummer for local gigs. They finally found who they were looking for in drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. and bassist Mark Stoermer. Both were veteran musicians from other bands. The band lineup has been the same since then. The Killers were getting a lot of buzz locally. But they were having trouble getting a record deal. They signed with the small British label Lizard King and then Island in the US. The 2004 album Hot Fuss was produced by recording engineer Jeff Saltzman and The Killers. Saltzman produced their first few albums. Mr. Brightside reached #10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Hot Fuss was certified 3XPlatinum and it sold 7 million copies worldwide. So it was a big success. Though The Killers have not scored another top ten hit, their albums have done well and they are a big live draw. Flowers has also had success as a solo artist. Stoermer and Keuning went on hiatus from The Killers in 2017. Both are supposed to appear on albums but will replaced on tour. Both guys have released solo albums. The Killers' new album Imploding the Mirage will be released on Aug. 21. It was produced by Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado. Flowers and Vannucci wrote most of the songs. I don't think Stoermer amd Keuning contributed much. Flowers confirmed that Keuning was not on the album and Stoermer appeared on one song. I expect them to be permanently replaced. Here's the video for Mr. Brightside by The Killers.
