AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Dane Cook

Artist:Dane Cook

Song:Benson's Animal Farm

Album:Rough Around the Edges: Live from Madison Square Garden

As I have said before, there was a time when comedy albums were big sellers. Those days are long gone and even a really successful comic like Dane Cook doesn't record anymore. When he was working for Comedy Central, they would release his TV specials on CD. But he left Comedy Central in 2009. Cook still performs live. He's starting a new tour next week. But I don't think he's as popular today as twenty years ago when he was on Comedy Central. Cook was born Mar. 18,1972 in Cambridge, MA. He was shy as a child. But he started doing stand up comedy while he was in high school. He studied graphic design in college in case he didn't make it in comedy. Cook moved to New York and then Los Angeles. His big break came when he appeared on a 1998 episode of Comedy Central's Premium Blend. Then he started appearing regularly on Comedy Central. At the time, they were releasing a lot of their comedy specials on CD. Benson's Animal Farm is from the 2007 album Rough Around the Edges. First, filling Madison Square Garden is a big deal. I don't know if he could do that today. The album comes with a bonus DVD of the concert. Cook became so popular at the time that he appeared in a series of films. The most popular of these was Good Luck Chuck in 2007. Cook's success really ended when he left Comedy Central in 2009. And he really hasn't been able to get to that level again. In 2012, NBC announced that  Cook would star in the sitcom Next Caller. After four episodes were produced, NBC cancelled the show and they never aired. He still does the occasional comedy specials. He has a podcast. Who doesn't? And like I said, he's starting a new tour next week. He's made lots of money so he'll be OK. But he's not riding high like he was twenty years ago. Maybe Cook should retire from stand up comedy. Here's Dane Cook performing Benson's animal Farm from the 2007 Comedy Central show Rough Around the Edges: Live from Madison Square Garden.
