Artist:Andy Grammer
Song:Keep Your Head Up
Album:Andy Grammer
The 2011 single Keep Your Head Up is probably a song you remember hearing but you don't know who recorded it. The chorus is a memorable earworm. Singer songwriter Andy Grammer has had most of his success in the Adult Contemporary market. But Keep Your Head Up crossed over to pop. It was probably a bigger hit than its chart position. He was born Dec. 3, 1983 in Los Angeles and he grew up in Chester, NY. His father Red Grammer is a singer songwriter known for children's songs. Grammer moved to Los Angeles at age 20 and earned a BA in music industry at Cal State Northridge. He signed with S-Curve Records in 2009. Keep Your Head up was his debut single. It reached #5 on the Adult Contemporary chart but #53 on the Billboard Hot 100. The record was certified Platinum so it probably should have charted higher. The song became popular due to the music video and over a million streams. And it appeared in the 2012 hit film Pitch Perfect. Billboard's criteria at the time was still based on radio airplay. They have changed things in recent years to account for streaming. Half of the 2011 album Andy Grammer was produced by Matt Wallace who worked with Maroon 5. Keep Your Head Up was produced by The Lion's share. It looks like they were brought in by S-Curve owner Steve Greenberg. Grammer wrote all the songs. The album is available on CD. For his 2014 album Magazines and Novels, Honey, I'm Good reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100. So technically it's his biggest hit but Keep Your Head Up may be more memorable. As with the first album, Grammer wrote all the songs. Most of the album was produced by Canadian Jon Levine of The Philosopher Kings. Grammer still records for S-Curve and he released an album last year. But he isn't having the same success. Here's the video for Keep Your Head Up by Andy Grammer.
