AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Blue October

Artist:Blue October

Song:Home

Album:Home

Blue October have had success mostly as an album and touring band since they formed in 1995. They are from Houston led by singer songwriter guitarist Justin Furstenfeld, his drummer brother Jeremy Furstenfeld, keyboardist Ryan Delahoussaye, guitarist Steve Schiltz and bassist Matt Noveskey. They signed with Universal Motown and had success when the 2006 album Foiled was certified Platinum and the single Hate Me was a top 30 hit. The success was mostly because VH1 played the video in heavy rotation. And Blue October appeared on all the late night talk shows. I guess Universal loved them at the time. But by 2011, Universal didn't like them much anymore as they offered Blue October what is known as a 360 deal. The label offers financial support in return for an increased share of band revenues. The idea is Universal wants to get paid back quickly and indie bands like Blue October don't generate enough revenue. So the band rejected that and started their own label Up/Down with distribution by Sony owned RED Music which used to be The Orchard. So they just distribute. There is no promotion like there is with a major label. So this means Blue October has more control over their music. The 2016 album Home was produced by Justin Furstenfeld with recording engineer Tim Palmer. Furstenfeld wrote all the songs. By this time Schiltz was spending more time with his other band Longwave. So C.B. Hudson was brought in to replace him. Schiltz returned in 2023. Blue October last released new music in Dec. 2024 and they are on tour to support it. Here's the video for Home by Blue October.
