Alex Chambers, Nadia Kassem |
Shawn Bitter at MMA Today reports that Alex Chambers vs Nadia Kassem has been added to UFC Fight Night 121 Nov. 19 at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia. The way the UFC announces fights like this is through an Aussie paper like the Sydney Morning Herald. That's because both fighters are Aussies. I expect this fight to air on the UFC Fight Pass prelims. Alex Chambers is 38 years old from Sydney, Australia. These days she's training at American Top Team in Florida. Her record is 5-3 and her UFC record is 1-2. The last time we saw Alex she blew out her knee during a Sept. 2015 loss to Paige VanZant. I wondered if she would return because she ain't getting any younger. This is something Alex discussed when she was on TUF 20. She knows her time is short. My problem with her is not only her age but I don't think she's very good. Her ground game is OK. A few years ago she trained in Japan with MMA legend Megumi Fujii. But she's not a very good striker. In her one UFC win, Alex lost the first two rounds to Kailin Curran and then caught Kailin with a third round armbar. And she's returning from her second knee surgery. She had one in 2010. And it cracks me up that her nickname is Astro Girl because she's an astrophysicist. No wonder her family is annoyed with her fighting. Nadia is 21 years old from Wentworthville, Australia. Her record is 4-0 on the Aussie regional circuit. So she's unproven and very young. She was supposed to debut on the June New Zealand show vs JJ Aldrich but she dropped out due to injury. She trains at Australian Top Team. Her coach Suman Mokhtarian is also her boyfriend. His brother Ashkan will also fight on this show. Until I see her, I don't know if she's any good. Maybe this time we'll find out.
