AccuRadio Song Of The Day-The Temptations

Artist:The Temptations
Song:Silent Night
Album:The Temptations Give Love At Christmas

Around this time of year I always get asked about Christmas CDs. AccuRadio could play anything at random. So if something is played and I have a decent video clip, I could do it. The Temptations scored a top ten hit with Silent Night in 1968 and I think their version is very popular today. They recorded Silent Night three times. The first time they recorded it was for the 1970 album The Temptations Christmas Card. It was released after Ball Of Confusion. The group at the time was Dennis Edwards, Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams, Melvin Franklin and Otis Williams. Kendricks sang lead on Silent Night. The album was very successful. The second time they recorded Silent Night was on the 1980 album The Temptations Give Love At Christmas. This was right after they returned to Motown after recording two albums for Atlantic. Dennis Edwards had just returned from a modest solo career. You have to remember Edwards didn't get along with Otis Williams which is why Edwards left The Temptations in the first place. The other two members were Richard Street and new addition Glenn Leonard. Street joined The Temptations in 1971 and was a mainstay of the group until the 90s. Very underrated guy. The third time The Temptations recorded Silent Night was for the 2001 CD The Best Of The Temptations Christmas. Williams had recently brought in G.C. Cameron as lead singer to replace Barrington "Bo" Henderson. Other members were Ron Tyson, Harry McGilberry and Terry Weeks. All three CDs are available as budget CDs so take your pick. I like the 1980 album best. Any one of them would make for a great R & B Christmas. Here are The Temptations performing Silent Night around 1997. Bo Henderson was lead singer at the time.
