Song Freak Me
Album:The Best Of Silk
The R & B vocal group Silk was very similar to Boyz II Men except Silk sang about sex as opposed to love. Freak Me topped the charts in 1993. Silk was from Atlanta. Timothy "Timzo" Cameron, Jimmy Gates Jr and Johnathen "John John" Rasboro started singing together as teens while working together at McDonalds. Gary "Big G' Glenn joined the group and they started singing gospel in church basements. They were discovered by R & B star Keith Sweat and Silk signed with his Keia label distributed by Elektra Records. Tyga Graham was the fifth member of Silk but Sweat decided the group needed a lead singer. Auditions were held and Graham was replaced by Nashville native Gary "Lil G' Jenkins. Sweat wrote and produced Silk's 1992 debut CD Lose Control with Alton "Wokie" Stewart who produced Bell Biv Devoe. The album was certified 2XPlatinum. Freak Me was the second single and it topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1993. Sweat wrote the song with former Malo drummer Roy Murray. They wrote several songs on the album. The rapper on the record Temo West only had one credit and he is now a lawyer. Silk continued to have success on the R & B charts but they never had another top ten pop hit. This comp has all their hits. As Silk progressed, Jenkins took control of Silk and he wrote and produced a lot of the 2001 album Love Session. When that didn't sell, Elektra dropped them and Jenkins left Silk. Silk recorded two albums independently and then Jenkins returned to Silk in 2008 and they still tour. Silk last recorded in 2006. Here's the video for Freak Me by Silk featuring Temo West.
