AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Pharrell Williams

Artist:Pharrell Williams
Song:Happy
Album:G I R L

Pharrell Williams is so busy as a producer I'm surprised he had time to record his own album. Happy is a song Williams wrote for the film Despicable Me 2 that grew into the biggest hit of 2014. He was born Apr. 5, 1973 in Virginia Beach, VA. He met his long time partner Chad Hugo at summer camp. They formed The Neptunes in the early 90s. While in high school, they were discovered by producer Teddy Riley and they worked with him after graduating high school. The Neptunes stopped bring a band and the two became producers. Their first number one hit was I'm A Slave 4 U by Britney Spears in 2001 followed by Nelly's Hot In Here. The Neptunes released a remix CD in 2003 but they never recorded a CD of original music. Williams decided to release the solo CD In My Mind in 2006. It did OK but there were no hit singles. The Neptunes continued to produce artists like Britney Spears, Beyonce, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and others. And The Neptunes also recorded as N.E.R.D. Williams worked on the 2010 film Despicable Me with composer Hans Zimmer. Then he worked on the sequel Despicable Me 2 in 2013. While working on that, Williams signed with Columbia Records and released G I R L Mar. 2014. Happy became a huge worldwide hit helped by a video featuring celebrity guest shots. Happy doesn't have any verses. It just has a chorus and a bridge and he just repeats them. It's like they used to say on American Bandstand. It's got a good beat so we'll give it a 95. So now Williams is a pop star and out on tour. Happy was nominated but did not win an Oscar. But there are plenty of Grammys in Pharrell Williams future. I don't know how he's going to juggle everything and still record his next solo CD. He's a busy boy. Here's the video for Happy by Pharrell Williams.
