AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Vikki Carr

Artist:Vikki Carr

Song:It Must Be Him

Album:From the Heart

The 1967 top five hit It Must Be Him was the only big hit for Mexican American singer Vikki Carr. Most of her success in recent years has been in Mexico. She was born Florencia Vicenta de Casillas-Martinez Cardon July 19, 1940 in El Paso, TX. Her parents were Mexican. They moved to Rosemead, CA and that's where Vikki graduated from high school. She had been performing in local clubs when she signed as Vikki Carr with Liberty Records in 1962. She didn't seem to have much success until the 1967 single It Must Be Him reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. It Must Be Him was written and originally recorded by French singer songwriter Gilbert Becaud as Seul Sur Son Etoile. Mack David wrote the English lyrics. The record was produced by jazz saxophonist Dave Pell and arranged by Ernie Freeman. Vikki Carr has had a long career but It Must Be Him was her only big hit. You can get it on this budget comp. Vikki moved to Columbia in 1971. But she didn't have much success until she started recording exclusively in Spanish. And that's where she has had most of her recent success mostly in Mexico. She recorded for Columbia until 1994 and then recorded for Universal. I think she may have retired. Here's Vikki Carr performing It Must Be Him on The Ed Sullivan Show Dec. 31, 1967.

  1. I remember listening to her growing up in the 60's. My parents listened to her. I had no idea who she was until now. Thank-you so much Frank. Interesting bio about her. David.
