Artist:Mark McGuire
Song:Sons of the Serpent
Album:Beyond Belief
Mark McGuire is best known as the guitarist for the ambient electronic music group Emeralds. All three members of Emeralds record solo. They are from Cleveland so most of their fanbase is in the Midwest. McGuire was born Dec. 31, 1986 in Cleveland. He started playing guitar at age nine and played in bands in high school. He formed Emeralds with John Elliott and Steve Hauschildt in 2005. While they released albums and toured, McGuire recorded solo. The music was released on limited edition CD-Rs and cassettes given to friends. He did release the album Living with Yourself in 2010 on the Austrian label Mego and they released the 2011 album A Young Person's Guide to Mark McGuire covering his early recordings. McGuire moved to Portland in 2011 and then left Emeralds in 2013. They ultimately split up. McGuire moved to Los Angeles and signed with Jagjaguwar's Dead Oceans label. Sons of the Serpent is from the 2015 album Beyond Belief. The difference between Emeralds and McGuire's solo work is Emeralds is instrumental and McGuire sings on his albums. Those who like ambient electronic music will enjoy both. McGuire continues to record mostly on his own label. He released his latest album in 2021. And it was recently announced that Emeralds will reunite and appear on the 2023 Primavera Sound music festivals in Spain. Here's the video for Sons of the Serpent by Mark McGuire.
