AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Joe Nichols

Artist:Joe Nichols

Song:Sunny and 75

Album:Crickets

Country singer Joe Nichols got off to a great start when he signed with Universal South and his 2002 debut album Man with a Memory was certified Platinum. He scored a #1 country hit with the 2005 single Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off. But by the time the 2009 album Old Things New was released, things were getting stale for Nichols. He had worked his entire career with session guitarist Brent Rowan producing. Plus he went into rehab for substance abuse in 2007. Then Universal South merged with Toby Keith's Show Dog label to become Show Dog-Universal Music. In an effort to reinvent himself Nichols asked Show Dog-Universal president Mark Wright to produce his 2011 album It's All Good. Wright brought in veteran producer Buddy Cannon to help. When there were no hit singles and the album didn't sell, Nichols left Universal and signed with Broken Bow's Red Bow label. For his 2013 album Crickets, Mickey Jack Cones and Derek George were brought in to produce. Cones has worked a lot with Jason Aldean and they were looking to give Nichols a contemporary country sound. It worked as the singles Sunny and 75 and Yeah (produced by Tony Brown) both topped the US Country Airplay chart. When subsequent singles and the 2017 album Never Gets Old didn't sell, Broken Bow closed Red Bow and Nichols was among the artists who were dropped. It looks like the album was delayed a couple of times so I guess Nichols was in conflict with Broken Bow. Nichols released the 2021 album Good Day for Living on his own label. He is still working with Cones and George. But trying to sell himself will be a tough road for Nichols. I don't know if a label will spend money on him at this point. Here's the video for Sunny and 75 by Joe Nichols.
