Artist:Nicole C. Mullen
Song:Call on Jesus
Album:Redeemer: The Best of Nicole C. Mullen
Nicole C. Mullen started out as a background singer and dancer. She started writing songs and a couple of hits got her a record deal. This 2001 single is one of her two big hits. She was born Nicole Coleman Jan. 3, 1967 in Cincinnati but she grew up in the Dallas suburb of Rockwall, TX. Her grandparents were ministers. Nicole started working as a background singer in the 80s and she recorded two albums for the CCM label Frontline. While recording the 1992 album Wish Me Love, she started working with another Frontline artist David Mullen. They married in 1993. They left Frontline and moved to Nashville. Nicole worked as a background singer and dancer. She toured with Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith. Her big break came when her song On My Knees was a big hit for Jaci Velasquez and won the 1998 Dove award for Song of the Year. This led to a record deal with Word and Epic. Nicole wrote and produced with her husband. She released the album Talk About It in 2001. The songs Redeemer and Call on Jesus were big CCM hits. Redeemer won a Song of the Year Dove award. And she won Female Vocalist of the Year. There was talk that she might cross over to pop. But she never did. Maybe she didn't want to. Nicole recorded five albums for Word. This comp covers those years. Since then Nicole divorced David Mullen. She is reportedly in a relationship with gospel artist Donnie McClurkin. In recent years she has recorded for her own label. But for a few minutes she looked like she was going to be a star. Here's the video for Call on Jesus by Nicole C. Mullen.
