Artist:scolohofo
Song:The Dawn of Time
Album:oh!
This 2003 album is from four of the top jazz musicians in the world. Fans of all four guys should dig it. Tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano was in guitarist John Scofield's early 90s band. Lovano left the Scofield band to start his solo career. Meanwhile bassist Dave Holland and drummer Al Foster were both members of the Miles Davis band at different times. Of course Holland has his own career as a leader. He also appeared on a couple of Lovano's early 90s albums. Foster is mainly a sideman. He appeared on Lovano's 1996 album Celebrating Sinatra. Also Scofield, Holland and Foster all appeared on Joe Henderson's 1993 album So Near, So Far (Musings for Miles). They may have been interested in recording and touring. Scheduling can be difficult for these guys. By the time they were able to make the project a reality, Henderson had died. No doubt Scofield wanted to work with Lovano again. And both guys were on Blue Note and they wanted to tour. I'm sure Blue Note liked that. The end result was the 2003 album oh! by scolohofo. The Dawn of Time is a Lovano song that first appeared on Lovano's 1993 album Universal Language with Tim Hagans on trumpet, Kenny Werner on piano, Charlie Haden on bass and Jack DeJohnette on drums. The Dawn of Time also appears on Logano's 2008 album Symphonica with the WDR Big Band and Orchestra. scolohofo is a great album is and it's available as a budget CD. But it turned out to be a one off album probably due to busy schedules. Scofield and Lovano did reunite on Scofield's 2015 album Past Present. But they were never able to record a second scolohofo album. Here's scolohofo performing The Dawn of Time at the 2002 JazzBaltica festival in Germany.
