AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz

Artist:Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz f/Usher and Ludacris
Song:Lovers & Friends
Album:Crunk Juice

Rapper Jonathan "Lil Jon" Smith is known as the King Of Crunk which is a rap style from Atlanta. He's not as active in music today as he was 15 years ago. The 2004 single Lovers & Friends is his biggest hit to date. He was born Jan. 17, 1971 in Atlanta. He started out working as a DJ in Atlanta clubs and he worked as a producer for Jermaine Dupri's So So Def Records from 1993 to 2000. He produced a lot of remixes. Then he formed Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz with rappers Sammie "Big Sam" Norris and Wendell "Lil' Bo" Neal. They released a couple of albums and had success on the R&B charts. They signed with TVT Records in 2001. They had major label distribution. That was really the start of Lil Jon's success. They recorded three albums for TVT. Two of them were certified 2XPlatinum. They had three top ten pop hits. Lovers & Friends is from the 2004 CD Crunk Juice. At first it was released as a B side which is why there is no video. Radio stations started playing the song and it reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The record is based on Michael Sterling's 1991 single Lovers & Friends which was never a hit. The album Crunk Juice is available on mp3. The album is available on CD in a Deluxe Edition but Lovers & Friends isn't on it. Smith disbanded East Side Boyz and left TVT in 2006 over money. He released the album Crunk Rock on his own label in 2010. Since then he has released a few singles including the 2014 top ten hit Turn Down For What. Smith was contestant on two seasons of Celebrity Apprentice. He is a regular on The Walking Dead talk show Talking Dead. He still performs in clubs and releases occasional singles. But he hasn't released an album in a long time. Here's Lil Jon featuring Usher and Ludacris performing Lovers & Friends on the So So Def Records 20th Anniversary Show 2013.
